Making Sense of the Bible
A Sermon Series and Whole Church Book Study
The Bible contains some of the loftiest and most beautiful verses in literature. Millions look to it for inspiration and guidance. At the same time, some parts are confusing and others are deeply disturbing. If you’ve ever had questions about the Bible, we’d like to invite you to join us for a series of honest and frank messages entitled “Making Sense of the Bible.”
In Making Sense of the Bible, author Adam Hamilton invites us into an honest conversation about the Bible. The book begins with foundational questions such as, How and when was the Bible written? Who decided which books made it into the scriptures and why? How literally must we read it? And, Is the Bible ever wrong?
From there, Hamilton considers the real questions people frequently ask that continue to divide Christians and churches alike, including:
– Were Adam and Eve real people?
– Why is God so violent in the Old Testament?
– Why would Paul command women to “keep silent in the church”?
– How does the Bible align with modern day science?
– What does the Bible say about human sexuality?

At Epworth, our Sermon Series runs from Aug. 25 – Sept. 29. Please join in by reading the book (purchase in the lobby or online) or participating in one of the small groups which will start in late August. Contact Janet Taylor-Smith for more information about small groups.
