Falling under the Inviting All Ministry Team is the Social Justice Ministry. Our Social Just Teams has many outreach programs that make Epworth’s “hands and feet of God” a vital part of the surrounding community as well as the worldwide community. KIVA is just such one of those small groups. Feel free to take a look and see if this is an outreach where you’d like to participate.

Kiva@Epworth is a micro-lending club that meets every two months for the purpose of funding loans to worthy entrepreneurs worldwide.  We work through Kiva.org, which is a non-profit organization that is revolutionizing the fight against global poverty by enabling people to connect with and make personal loans – of as little as $25 – to applicants in the developing world. Most of the poor in developing countries are self-employed and a small loan to purchase business-related items such as sewing machines or livestock can empower them to earn their way out of poverty.

SJ kiva pix 1     At Epworth, it works like this:  We get together over a meal and make a free will donation.
Next, we pool the money and browse profiles of possible lendees.  It could be a dairy
farmer in Kenya, a woman who needs a refrigerator for her restaurant in Honduras, or a
tailor in Bulgaria.  We then select an entrepreneur and make a loan of the money
collected that night.  Kiva shows us where our money goes and how making our small
loan is making a big difference.

Everyone is welcome to join us!  For more information about the next meeting of
