The United Methodist Church

United Methodists come in all sizes, shapes, colors, dispositions, outlooks and life stories, but share a unique history and faith perspective. Our members speak many languages and live in many countries. The United Methodist Church is divided into 24 Jurisdictional Areas. These geographic regions in the The United Methodist Church are used as organizational governing bodies. The United Methodist Church meets in a General Conference every four years.

The Northeastern Jurisdictional Area

of The United Methodist Church is one of 5 Jurisdictional Areas in the USA. There are 12 in Africa, 3 in the Philippines and 4 in Europe. The Northeastern Jurisdiction has 10 Annual Conferences: New England, Upper New York, New York, New Jersey, Susquehanna, Western Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Baltimore-Washington, Southeastern Pennsylvania and the Peninsula-Delaware. The Jurisdictional Areas come together to meet every 4 years.

The Peninsula-Delaware Conference of The United Methodist Church

is one of 59 Annual Conferences in the 5 Jurisdictional Areas in the USA. The Annual Conferences meet once each year. Our Conference office is located in Dover, Delaware. Pen-Del is lead by our Bishop, Peggy Johnson who also presides over the Southeastern Pennsylvania Annual Conference. She resides within the SEPA Conference and maintains her office there while spending equal time with both Conferences.

United Methodist Committee On Relief

or UMCOR is part of The United Methodist Church. UMCOR is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to alleviating human suffering around the globe.  UMCOR’s work reaches people in more than 80 countries, including the United States.  We provide humanitarian relief when war, conflict, or natural disaster disrupt life to such an extent that communities are unable to recover on their own.

United Methodist churches are part of a Connectional Ministry which centralizes resources for fiscal efficiency as well as workforce resources. UMCOR’s overhead is 100% funded through The United Methodist Church. Therefore when donations directed to UMCOR go directly to services and to overhead.

Reconciling Ministries Network

Epworth is proud to be affiliated with the Reconciling Ministries Network since April 2006. Each Fall we celebrate our affiliation during our Sunday Worship. Our mission to the world includes one that is shared by the people at RMN.

Creating space at the table for all God’s children

Mobilizing United Methodists of all sexual orientations and gender identities to transform our Church and world into the full expression of Christ’s inclusive love.

Epworth members are a rainbow of loving and caring individuals. We are God’s children, straight and gay, black, white, Latino, European, Asia and Middle Eastern. We are rich and poor and when you put us all together, you can’t tell us apart.
