Ash Wednesday – 2018

Two Services on Ash Wednesday

Wednesday, February 14 at 12:00pm

Ash Wednesday focuses on the dual themes of sin and death in the light of God’s redeeming love in Jesus Christ. In this dual encounter we not only confess our sin before God within the community of faith but also confront our own mortality. The use of ashes has a long history in Jewish and Christian worship and enhances our participation in repentance and reconciliation. The ashes used for The Imposition of Ashes are burned palm branches from last year’s Palm Sunday service, a custom in many churches.

This service will take place at Epworth.

Our 2018 Ash Wednesday Worship Service will be held in loving connection with two other local United Methodist churches, Faith and Israel, at the Israel UMC location on Plantations Road. CLICK HERE for directions.
In 2017 Epworth started to develop a closer relationship with these churches as they came to Epworth to worship on Good Friday. Additionally, Epworth shares a combined study group with both churches looking at Bridging the Divide, offering Vital Conversations on Race, Culture and Justice.
Please join us as we gather as one in Christ on Ash Wednesday for Worship and the Imposition of Ashes. A solemn time when we look at our own mortality and prepare for the Holy Season of Lent.
This is being brought to you by Epworth’s Connecting to God Ministry Team and the Worship Teams of Faith and Israel United Methodist Churches.
